Impact of Physical Activity on Striatal Reinnervation in a Nonhuman Primate Model of Parkinson's Disease

In this multidisciplinary proposal we will use a nonhuman primate model of Parkinsons disease to study the reversibility of the beneficial effects of physical exercise and its impact on induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-based therapy. We will investigate how exercise and iPSC-based cell therapy reinnervate the striatum and restore movement and gait by recruiting new neural networks as revealed by longitudinal multimodal imaging, behavioral and morphological analysis.

Role of LncRNAs in establishing and reactivation of HIV latency

This Cowles Fellowship donation will bring Dr. Sukhvinder Singh to Texas Biomed to hone his skills as an HIV researcher. In particular he would like to explore HIV latency as an obstacle to complete eradication of the virus. His projects hypothesis is that the long non-coding RNAs (LncRNA), plays a role in the establishment of HIV latency. We have designed a systematic and multidimensional approach to address this hypothesis.
