Nowadays, much of our daily work is performed indoors and indoor environment can significantly affect human performance [1]. It is estimated that improving indoor environment in US office buildings would result in a 0.5% to 5% increase in productivity, worth $12 - $125 billion annually [3]. Among many indoor environmental factors, thermal environment is one of the most important factors that impact human performance. Inadequate thermal conditions of being either too cold or too warm have been shown to lead >8% reduction of peak performance [4]. The ability to maintain a suitable thermal environment is crucial for sustaining highest productivity.
