Our work demonstrates the presence of axo-glial septate junctions (AGSJs) inDrosophila nerves and establishes structural and molecular similarities betweenDrosophila and vertebrate AGSJs. Drosophila proteins: Neurexin IV (NRX IV), Contactin(CONT) and Neuroglian (NRG) form a tripartite complex that localizes to AGSJs. Theirmurine orthologs Contactin-associated protein (Caspr), Contactin (Cont) andNeurofascin (NF155) also form a complex at the paranodal AGSJs in myelinated axons.Drosophila nrx IV, cont and nrg, and mouse Caspr, Cont and NF155 mutants all fail toorganize AGSJs.

Cognitive impairment has a serious detrimental impact on the quality of life for prostate cancer survivorstreated by androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Neuroimaging studies have shown structural and functionaldeficits in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and hippocampus (Hipp), which mediate higher order cognitiveprocesses, including cognitive flexibility and spatial cognition, that are impaired after ADT. In this project, we willinvestigate mechanisms that underly the cognitive impairments we have now shown to be induced by androgendeprivation in rats.
