Our DNA contains many sequences of ancient viral origin. Activation of these viruses can trigger components of our immune system such as APOBEC3 enzymes, which in turn can induce DNA mutation and damage. We aim to use a combined computational/experimental approach to reveal the role of our internal viral sequences in cancer mutations.
