Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) has awarded Southwest Research Institute a contract  to combine two available medications and test the resulting combination drug therapy against the Ebola virus. SwRI is collaborating with Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed) on this program. The award is a one-year contract with two additional option years.

Applied Research

The study is event driven and total duration will be determined by the time required to accrue approximately 264 adjudicated events for the clinical outcomes composite endpoint, in the OCA 25 mg and placebo groups combined, for subjects with fibrosis stage 2 and stage 3, estimated to take approximately up to 6 years.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global health concern with a suspected increasing prevalence due to the rise in obesity and diabetes mellitus. The vast majority of patients will have isolated steatosis or steatosis with mild inflammation that is very unlikely to progress in severity. However, about 25% of patients with NAFLD have non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the more aggressive form of the disease that is associated with fibrosis progression and potential risk for cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease complications.

A double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of OBS treatment administered twice daily (qAM, pc and hs) for 12 weeks

Basic Research

<p>This is a multicenter, open-label, randomized phase II study which will enroll 112 newly diagnosed symptomatic multiple myeloma patients in a 1:1 fashion. Patients will be enrolled at approximately 20 centers in the United States.</p><p>Patients will undergo stem cell mobilization with plerixafor plus Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor (G-CSF), according to investigator discretion, after 4 cycles of induction therapy. Study treatment interruption for stem cell collection may not exceed 30 days.

The majority of host genetic determinants of HIV viral control identified in genome-wide association studies are in the non-coding regions and the functional mechanisms mediating these associations are still unknown. We are investigating functional impact of these non-coding RNAs on HIV viral control. Outcomes from the study outlined in this proposal will likely provide new therapeutic targets that can be manipulated in order to control HIV infection.

This is a Phase 3, randomized (assignment of study drug by chance), double-blind (neither the participant or study staff will know the identity of study drugs), placebo-controlled (placebo is an inactive substance that is compared with a drug to test whether the drug has a real effect in a clinical trial), parallel-group (a medical research study comparing the response in 2 or more groups of participants receiving different interventions), multi-center (more than one clinical site will work on a medical research study), protocol of ustekinumab.

This observational research study will involve approximately 5000 subjects with UC or CD in approximately 350 study centers located in North America and Europe. Study participants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of enrollment and will be either starting Vedolizumab or will be starting on another biologic medication for their disease. 20 of the patients will be from BAMC.
