The goal is to have immediate impact by identifying prophylactic/therapeutic interventions using micronutrients as effective, low-cost, low-risk countermeasures to reduce viral damage to human airway cells and mitigate virus spread during this pandemic. The impact of our focus on ?epithelial defense? will provide an immediate means to fortify airway epithelial barrier function early during SARS-CoV-2 illness, which will reduce lung water accumulation and dyspnea in infected patients.

We propose a multicenter, non-blinded, parallel-group, randomized clinical trial (RCT) evaluating the effect of video versus direct laryngoscope use on successful first attempt tracheal intubations. Adult patients in participating EDs and ICUs who require tracheal intubation and who meet eligibility criteria will be enrolled and randomly assigned to either a video or direct laryngoscope for the first intubation attempt. The video laryngoscope group operators will use the video screen on the first attempt.

We have previously found that geriatric marmosets have a significantly reduced microbial diversity, and we have also found in pilot testing that oral fecal transplant can be safely used to alter a young animal?s microbial community. We hypothesize that loss of microbial diversity is significantly associated with the aging process, and that oral FMT may be a potential therapeutic for healthspan maintenance. Specific Aim 1: Determine if changes in the gut microbiome with aging are associated with significant changes in measures of healthspan and lifespan.
