The goal is to investigate the molecular basis of the functional impact of HIV-Tat protein binding cellular LncRNAs on HIV replication. Outcomes from the study outlined in this proposal will likely provide new functional insights into how the interaction between cellular LncRNAs and HIV proteins contributes to HIV pathogenesis and host defense, and identify novel molecular mechanisms of gene regulation, as well as therapeutic targets.

This Phase 3, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter international study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of OCA in subjects with a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis of cirrhosis (based on a fibrosis score of 4 using the NASH CRN scoring system) due to NASH (determined by central reading of liver histology). Up to approximately 30% of total enrolled subjects may have a diagnosis of cryptogenic cirrhosis and presence of metabolic risk factors. Subjects with hepatic decompensation or CP Class B or Class C cirrhosis are excluded.

This collaborative research project will further evaluate whether intrinsic alterations in these signaling pathways are biomarkers of drug response and. reciprocally. follow up on data indicating that the taccas can also alter the functional consequences of these signaling pathways. These studies are significant in that they will lead. in the future.

To provide patients with a toolkit to move through the military transition process to help patients achieve optimal readiness for transfer of care to the VA. We aim: (1)To determine the feasibility and acceptability of a self-management intervention focused on successful transition to VA care upon discharge from active duty as measure by patient engagement and satisfaction.

The objective of this NACA is to perform the appropriate HPLC mass spectrometric analysis, using methods developed at UTSA, to determine the levels of diflubenzuron in blood/serum samples taken from cattle and white-tailed deer that have been fed a daily feed-through formulation containing 3% diflubenzuron.  After extraction and appropriate clean up prep of blood/serum samples, the level of diflubenzuron in cattle and white-tailed deer blood/serum will be analyzed using chromatography analysis by HPLC with UV detection or similar HPLC analysis.

In this study, we propose to collect a wide variety of samples from patients with neoplastic or non-neoplastic disease processes. All organ systems are eligible for collection including, but not limited to, skin, head and neck, endocrine, lung, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, the central nervous system, soft tissues, hematologic malignancies such as those seen in the bone marrow and lymph nodes, and inflammatory or traumatic diseases/condition.

BACKGROUND

Basic Research

Mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE) is the most common form of adult acquired epilepsy. Unfortunately, it is frequently resistant to current anti-epileptic drugs and often times surgical therapy is the best available option for these individuals. While genetic mutations and developmental malformations can cause mTLE, it is usually caused by a brain injury such as head trauma, infection, ischemia, prolonged febrile seizures and status epilepticus.

The objective of this protocol is to determine if a non-invasive ICP estimation method using transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) is comparable to invasive ICP measurements. This study will contribute to this objective by investigating specific morphological changes in the TCD waveform.
